About

Our Association

The PEI Miniature Horse Association was organized to promote the Miniature Horse breed across Prince Edward Island. We are a not-for-profit organization that hosts many shows and fun events throughout the year.

Minature Horses

Miniature horses were developed in the 1600's and by 1765 they were seen as the pets of nobility. They were also used to haul carts in coal mines.

There are many organizations under which a miniature horse can be registered. The two most popular are the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) and the American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR).

Under AMHA rules, a miniature horse measures no more than 34 inches at the last hairs on the mane. Horses registered under AMHR can measure up to 38 inches.

Miniature horses come in all shapes and colours. They have many uses including showing, companion animals, therapy horses and farm work.
